Nike

Long before the Nike swoosh came to be, Nike’s seeds were being planted at the University of Oregon. Bill Bowerman was a nationally respected track and field coach who constantly sought new ways to enhance his athletes’ performance; of particular importance were innovations in their running shoes. Phil Knight from Portland, enrolled at Oregon for their track program. He then went on to earn an MBA in finance from Stanford University. Bowerman and Knight became partners in a US-based footwear distribution company… In 1972, their distribution company officially grew into Nike- now an unrivaled global marketer of not only athletic footwear, but also apparel and equipment. With the belief that ‘if you have a body, you are an athlete’, Bowerman and Knight developed their mission statement: ‘to bring inspiration and innovation to every athlete in the world’. Nike operates in over 160 countries in the world, and directly or indirectly employs almost one million people.
