Prada

Founded originally in 1913 by Mario Prada and best known for its fine leather luggage, Mario’s granddaughter Miuccia Prada has transformed the brand into a world-respected, world-popular clothing and luxury goods label. With the help of Patrizio Bertelli, later to be her husband, Miuccia Prada transformed the Prada label- beginning with the cornerstone of the empire- a simple black nylon backpack, with the signature black Prada plaque strategically placed. Miuccia herself is an interesting lady- a Communist-leaning, Yves Saint Laurent wearing feminist, with a doctorate in political science and several years of training/studying towards becoming a mime. She designs what she wants to wear- clothing that is sophisticated and elegant, with nothing less than superior craftsmanship. Her air of womanliness, combined with her class and her past, has defined the Prada brand for the last decade. Heads up, Ladies.
