Banana Republic

Founded by Mel and Patricia Ziegler in 1978, Banana Republic has come a long way since its safari and travel themed two-store clothing retail base. The company started off by selling unique and high-end items with fictional backstories through an eccentric, hand-illustrated catalog. As it expanded, they became known for the themed decoration in their stores. Bought out by Gap in 1983, Banana Republic has been nothing short of successful- there are now over 600 stores internationally, and not without reason. While more artsy aspects were phased out, BR became more of a well-known luxury-clothing retailer, offering modern and refined clothing for both men and women.
