Betsey Johnson

Since the 1960s, New York fashion designer Betsey Johnson has been celebrating the exuberant, the embellished, and the over the top. In 1999 at the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards, she was presented with ‘The Timeless Talent Award’, created especially for her, recognizing her influence on fashion throughout her career. Betsey was born in Connecticut and spent much of her childhood in dance classes- where her love of costumes fostered her creativity and fashion inspirations. After designing for several other labels, 1978 marked the beginning of the Betsey Johnson label itself. International expansion happened 20 years later, and there are currently over 65 stores worldwide. To offer a little perspective, Betsey is a breast cancer survivor, and a strong advocate in the fight against the disease.
