Dolce & Gabbana

Dolce & Gabbana, perhaps best recognized by its authentic and unconventional stylistic signatures -fine tailoring, leopard print, lingerie, lace and ultimately playful mischief- is about “massimalismo” (maximalism) according to Stefano Gabbana. Founders Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce created an Italian powerhouse in 1985, making a name that is now synonymous with luxury and decadence. The pair met in a nightclub, started working together, and were invited to show at Milan Fashion Week in 1985- they were the newest and youngest talent on the Italian scene and were commonly referred to as ‘the boys’. In 1993, Madonna had Dolce & Gabbana design her costumes for her Girlie Show tour. ‘The Boys’ like to explore opposites (romance/sex, masculine/feminine, etc) using only the most expensive and luxurious materials- fur and snakeskin among others, stating that a masculine suit gives a woman an undeniable sense of erotic power.
