Engineered Garments

Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki founded Engineered Garments in New York in 1999. A pattern maker hired to draft the first round of patterns noted that the vast amount of detailing involved in each garment meant that the clothes were not simply designed, rather engineered- and hence, Engineered Garments got its name. Growing up in Japan, Daiki was interested in the clothing that came out of the US- to him it was a combination of design innovation and the latest industrial manufacturing. The flaws and weaknesses of manufacturing processes defined US clothing in a way- Daiki wanted to make sure that his clothes included the unique and practical detailing that was so often void in American sportswear. He focused on outdoor clothing and military uniforms for inspiration. When it comes to Daiki and his clothes, it’s all in the details.
